Happy Birthday!!

Hey everybody!! Sorry.....I've been away for a while. Well.....away from this blog. I wish I could say I was off somewhere fabulous enjoying the summer but alas.....I've just been working really hard!

However, today, I am back!! I am back because today is a very special day. It is my big boys birthday!!! Jake. AKA Javier di Napoli. NFC. My Jakey Lover.

Jake turns 13 years young today. Jake, Little Edie and I had a little party with tuna, some treats, some toys and lots of love. Edie jumped on him and nipped at his tail. Good times were had by all!

Happy Birthday Jake!! I love you!!!!

BFF

I gotta hand it to Jake. He has A LOT of patience. He has gotten used to his annoying sister, Little Edie, and her desire to constantly want to play with him. This is a great example of Edie bugging the crap out of Jake until he finally gets fed up with her. She doesn't realize that his swiping at her with the paw means "STOP IT". For her, that's an invitation to play. Maybe she thinks he wants to dance. She does pull some fierce dance moves here. In any case, Jake knows now that she's here to stay. For better or worse......

That's What Edie Always Says....

While shopping for wine the other day I came across this bottle of Shiraz and had a good laugh when I saw the name........ "Jake's Fault". I had to buy a bottle. It's actually not bad!

Capuccino or 'Expresso'??

Aunt Wanda took Javier back to the vet for a checkup one week after his 'expression' incident. He was put on antibiotics since he had a little infection back there. The vet gave him a gold star today and said he is all better and I don't have to try to shove half a pill down his throat everyday anymore. Phew! They also clipped his nails so he can play with his sister Edie and I don't have to worry about him taking her eye out.

When Jake came home I had a party platter waiting for him....tuna, treats and his crunchy dry food. He was so happy! Then he made a bold move! I caught him sleeping in his sisters bed!!! That was a first and totally hysterical. She just stared at him a little confused but being the good girl that she is, she decided to share and let him sleep there for a while.

Oh and Jake isn't having his 'expresso' alone. Karen emailed me today to let me know that little Cooper was dragging his butt across the floor and she realized he needed to order an 'expresso' too! Talk about timing!!

Leaky Bum...

Poor Jake.....I think the stress of having a new sister has gotten to him.

Edie used to ignore Jake. She only was interested in his toys and his food. Well, lately as he has started to get more comfortable with the idea of sharing his house with his new canine companion, Jake has started to hang out with us. Suddenly Edie can't live without him. She chases him, she sits in front of him and barks at him. She nips at his tail. She wants to play with him like she plays with her doggie friends. He growls, he hisses, he runs away.....

A couple of nights ago Jake jumped up on the vanity and I smelled something funky. One lift of his tail and there it was - the dreaded leaky bum. Time for Jake to be "expressed".

Have you heard of this concept? "Expressing" your pets anal glands? I'll save you a panic attack. Sometimes if our little furry friends don't poop regularly it all gets compacted up in there. They have two glands on either side of their bum bum hole. If they aren't pooping and the glands are not "expressed" their little anal glands can get all filled up and infected. This seems to happen as they get older. It happened to Audrey a few times and it happened to Frank too. Well, now it is Jake's turn.

Auntie Wanda to the rescue. I was so busy with work that Auntie Wanda took 'Javier' to the vet for me. She said he was such a good boy and that the vet said he was a beautiful and otherwise healthy 14 pound, 10 ounce hunk o' love. But he has an infection in his anal glands. They did the "expression" and he came home. Now I have to try to shove half a pill down his throat every day for 1 week. Yesterday I stashed it in the tuna. 1/2 of a tiny little pill. How smart is he that he ate all around the tuna and left the part right in the middle where I put the mashed up pill?

Wish me luck as I try to give him his pill today.....and please, remember to have your pets bum bum 'expressed'.

PS - I would never torture you with an actual picture of the leaky bum so instead we have a close-up of Jake's cute little multi-colored paw.

Hide and Seek

Jake has this long tubey thing that's lined with crinkly paper inside so it makes this fun sound when he runs thru it. It looks like a big log and has two holes in the top. He loves to run thru it really fast but most of all he likes to hide in there. When I can't find him and I call his name he pops his head out of one of the holes and meows at me.....

Daily Affirmation....

"I'm not going to let that little punk, Edie rule this house. I've been in the background all these years. Audrey, Audrey, Audrey.....she was always the star. Well, you know what? I'M the star now. I deserve it. Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggonit, people like me."

I Am The King of This House, Dammit!

This is Jake, my big lovable 16 pound hunk of Norwegian Forest Cat. Little Edie's new 'brother'. This is Jake's bed. See that blanket? He had the runs on it about a week ago. He also had the runs on MY bed. Then he barfed on the floor. Then when I took the blanket off the bed I discovered he had also pee'd on the pillow that goes in his bed. Poor Jake. Wait a minute....poor Jake?? Poor me!!!!! Look at his life! He lays in that bed all day, stares out the window at the birds in the birdbath, gets served tuna and fancy feast and treats, has a box full of toys and has me to clean up after his messy table manners, piss, barf and poop. He finally got rid of Audrey, his 13 year old feline sister that tortured him every day of his life. He never had a say in anything. She died and he had three months of total bliss but now it's all over. He has a new sister, Little Edie....a DOG no less, and oh boy is he acting out......
